  • LEDs in the clamps — the one genuinely useful innovation in this category
  • Fully insulated clamps, which is what stops a dropped clamp shorting on a wing
  • Aluminum carries roughly two-thirds of what copper carries for the same section

What lands on the bench

A pair of jump leads with 31.4 mm (1.24 in)² aluminum conductors, four fully insulated clamps and LEDs built into the clamps.

The specification that matters

Cross-section and material. Together they decide how much current the leads can carry without heating, and they are the only figures worth comparing. Einhell publishes both.

The feature nobody else has

Lights in the clamps. Jump-starting happens in car parks at night, in the rain, with a phone torch in your teeth. Two LEDs where the connection is made removes that entirely.

Where they stop

Petrol engines up to 5500 cc, stated. Nothing is published for diesel, which asks for more current — the heavier leads in this hub are the answer there.

The questions that reach us

Aluminum or copper?

Copper conducts better for the same cross-section — roughly a third more. Aluminum leads compensate with a larger section, which is why 31.4 mm (1.24 in)² of aluminum is a reasonable specification rather than a poor one.

Why do the clamps need to be insulated?

Because a live clamp dropped onto bodywork shorts the battery. Fully insulated clamps mean only the jaws are exposed, which is the difference between a spark and a fire.
