A conductance reading is an estimate, not a load test · review
Ansmann Power Check review
The simplest tester on this shelf: colored LEDs rather than a screen, no figures to enter, and a verdict a driver can read without knowing what CCA means.
The last word The tester for someone who does not want a tester. It answers one question and gets out of the way.
What lands on the bench
A hand-held checker with two color-coded clamps and a row of LEDs. Connect it to the battery posts and read the lamps.
What it actually tells you
State of charge and, under load, whether the battery can still deliver. Ansmann states that a damaged starter battery can be identified early this way, which is the honest scope: it flags a battery on its way out rather than quantifying how far it has gone.
Where it stops
No voltage figure, no internal resistance, no CCA entry, no charging-system test. Everything above this price adds numbers; this one adds a verdict.
Who it suits
Households with one car, and anyone who wants to know before winter whether the battery is the weak link — without learning what a cold cranking amp is.
Availability
On sale at around $9 on the American Amazon store at the time of checking.

What it does, and what it misses
Strengths
Nothing to configure: the reading needs no technical knowledge, which the maker states as the design intent
Cheapest way to find out whether a battery is the problem before buying anything else
No batteries of its own to be flat when you need it
Compromises
LEDs rather than numbers — no voltage, no internal resistance, no state of health percentage
12 V only, and no charging system test
Tells you there is a problem, not how far along it is

The questions that reach us
Is an LED tester enough?
To separate "the battery is flat" from "the battery is fine and something else is wrong", yes. To decide whether a battery will survive another winter, no — that is what a conductance tester with a state of health figure is for.
Does it need the engine off?
A state of charge reading is taken with the engine off and, ideally, after the car has stood. A reading straight after a run is flattered by surface charge.

6/12 V · 100–2000 CCA · flooded, AGM flat plate and more · color LCD · alloy clamps
The tester that names the chemistries it supports and reports internal resistance alongside voltage — the two things that separate a diagnosis from a light.
Best for: Someone who wants the underlying numbers rather than a pass or fail.
