  • Multi-grit wet sanding, which is what actually removes a degraded surface
  • A sealing step, so the result is protected rather than exposed
  • Sanding a lens is intimidating the first time and unforgiving of skipped grits

Best for: A genuinely yellowed pair of lenses, where polishing alone will not do it.

What lands on the bench

A three-step headlight restoration kit: wet sanding in several grits, polishing, and a sealing step, stated to cover at least two headlights.

The sequence, and why it cannot be shortened

Each grit exists to remove the scratches left by the previous one. Going straight from a coarse paper to polish leaves a lens that looks hazy in sunlight — which is the same problem you started with.

The step that is not in the box

Masking tape. Abrasive on paint is instant damage, and every restoration should start with taping the surround.

The step that decides longevity

The seal. It replaces the factory UV layer that failed in the first place.

The questions that reach us

Why does wet sanding need several grits?

Because each grit removes the scratches of the one before it. Skipping from coarse to polish leaves sanding marks that no compound will remove, and that is the single most common failure.

What has to be masked?

Every painted surface around the lens. An abrasive that cuts polycarbonate removes clear coat from a wing instantly, and tape costs nothing.
