  • Polarity indication removes the most common confusion when probing an unfamiliar loom
  • A live voltage display rather than a lamp alone
  • Frequency indication on a test pen is a niche function without a specification

Best for: Working on an unfamiliar loom, where knowing positive from negative saves the fuse.

What lands on the bench

A digital automotive circuit tester covering 6, 12 and 24 V DC, with a live voltage display, a test lamp, polarity indication and a frequency function.

The feature worth having

Polarity. On a car whose wiring has been touched by three previous owners, color tells you very little. A tester that says feed or earth immediately is a tester that stops you shorting one to the other.

What the frequency function is and is not

An indication that a circuit is pulsing. It is genuinely useful as a yes-or-no on a sensor line, and it is not a measurement — an oscilloscope is what reads those properly.

The rule for every tester here

Not on airbag or network wiring. Those need a scan tool and a diagram.

The questions that reach us

Why does polarity indication help?

Because wire colors are not universal and a loom that has been repaired is worse. Knowing immediately whether a wire is feed or earth is often the whole question.

What would frequency be used for?

Signal circuits that pulse rather than switch — a wheel speed sensor, for instance. It is a useful indication and it is not a measurement; a scope is the tool that actually reads those.
