MOTOPOWER MP0515A review

The one that prints. Real-time waveform display and printed results move this from a driveway check to something you can hand to somebody else.

The last word Bought for the printout. If you do not need one, the tester below it does the same tests.

What lands on the bench

A 12 V analyser covering battery health, cranking and charging, with a real-time waveform display and a printer.

Who the printing is for

Somebody who has to convince a third party: a family member, a customer, a seller. A printed slip with the figures on it ends the conversation that a verbal “it’s fine” starts.

The alternator half

Checking charging voltage while the engine runs is what separates a battery that failed from a battery that was never charged. This tool does both in one sequence, and states so.

What it shares with everything else here

The method. Conductance, an entered CCA figure, an estimated state of health. The printout makes the estimate portable; it does not make it a load test.

Availability

On sale at around $36 on the American Amazon store at the time of checking.

Prices and availability are what Keepa reported on the date this page was updated; both move.

What it does, and what it misses

Strengths

  • A printed result is evidence — useful when the car belongs to somebody else
  • Waveform view shows the shape of a cranking event rather than a single number
  • Alternator testing on the same tool

Compromises

  • The most expensive tester here, for a function most households never use
  • 12 V only
  • Printing means consumables, which the listing does not price

The questions that reach us

What does the waveform add?

It shows voltage over the cranking event rather than one figure. A battery that dips sharply and recovers behaves differently from one that sags throughout, and the shape is what distinguishes them.

Do I need printing?

Only if somebody else has to believe the result. For your own car, a photograph of the screen does the same job.

Where this one falls in its range

What buyers actually choose

Amazon reports what buyers took in the month before this page was last checked: at least 1,000.

The figure is a floor, rounded by Amazon, and read through Keepa — it says what buyers picked, not what a maker claims.
