Vgate iCar Pro BLE 4.0 review
The adapter most often recommended for iPhone users, and the one whose listing names the thing that matters when a dongle lives in the socket: a power-saving mode.
The last word The default answer for an iPhone, and the listing says why.
What lands on the bench
A Bluetooth Low Energy adapter with an ELM327 chipset, and no app. The app is your choice and usually your second purchase.
Why Low Energy is the whole point
Apple devices do not talk to the classic Bluetooth profile that most cheap OBD adapters use. An adapter has to implement BLE or Wi-Fi to appear on an iPhone at all — which is why the shelf is full of adapters that work perfectly for Android owners and are invisible to everyone else.
The specification that matters after the first week
Standby draw. A dongle in a permanently powered socket can keep a module awake, and Vgate states a power-saving function designed for exactly that. No figure is published for it, so treat it as a design intent rather than a measurement.
What you still have to buy
An app. Free apps read codes; the ones that show live data properly, log a drive or read manufacturer-specific systems are paid, and that cost belongs in the price of the adapter.
Availability
Not found on the American Amazon store, where the buy link falls back to a local search rather than to a page that does not exist.

What it does, and what it misses
Strengths
Bluetooth Low Energy, which is what makes an adapter work with an iPhone at all
A stated power-saving mode — the one specification that decides whether it can be left plugged in
Firmware updates, which most adapters at this price do not mention
Compromises
The app is bought separately, and the good ones are not free
"Works with most popular apps" is a compatibility claim without a list
No standby current figure published, so "power saving" stays a description rather than a number

The questions that reach us
Why does iOS need a specific adapter?
iOS does not support the classic Bluetooth serial profile that cheap adapters use, so an adapter has to implement Bluetooth Low Energy or Wi-Fi. An ordinary ELM327 clone will pair with an Android phone and never appear on an iPhone.
Can I leave it plugged in?
That is what the power-saving mode is for, and the maker states it explicitly. On a car that stands for weeks, unplugging remains the safer habit — no adapter draws nothing.

For BimmerCode and MotoScan · Bluetooth 4.0 · iOS, Android and Windows · BMW motorcycles from 1998 stated
A coding adapter rather than a diagnostic one: officially recommended by BimmerCode and MotoScan, and the one BMW owners buy when they want to change what the car does rather than read why it complained.
Best for: BMW and Mini owners who want to code options, and BMW motorcycle owners using MotoScan.
Bluetooth 5.1 · made for BimmerCode · advanced sleep mode and overvoltage protection · OBDLink app included
The adapter built for coding and safe to leave plugged in: Bluetooth 5.1, an advanced sleep mode, overvoltage protection, and its own app included rather than sold separately.
Best for: Anyone coding a BMW or Mini, and anyone who wants an adapter that can be left in the socket.
All-system scan stated · exclusive ThinkDiag app · battery test · VIN identification · 12 languages
An adapter that behaves like a scan tool: the maker states an all-system scan with inspection reports, which is a different proposition from a code-reading dongle.
Best for: Someone who wants scanner-level coverage without a second screen in the drawer.
