The dongle is half the tool; the app is the other half · review
BODAC UniCarScan UCSI-2100 review
A coding adapter rather than a diagnostic one: officially recommended by BimmerCode and MotoScan, and the one BMW owners buy when they want to change what the car does rather than read why it complained.
The last word A specialist tool that says so. Buy it for the app, not for the socket.
What lands on the bench
A Bluetooth interface built for two specific applications, and recommended by both. The apps themselves are a separate purchase, which the maker states rather than implies.
Why the recommendation matters
Coding is where a marginal adapter causes real trouble: a dropped connection mid-write is the one scenario every one of these apps warns about. An adapter the app authors name is the cheapest insurance available.
The motorcycle half
BMW motorcycles from 1998 with MotoScan, stated. That is an unusual capability on this shelf and the reason a proportion of these are bought.
What it is not
A general diagnostic tool. It will read codes through the right app, and a cheaper adapter does that as well. Everything that justifies this one is on the coding side.
Availability
On sale at around $93 on the American Amazon store at the time of checking.

Compromises
The apps are not included and the maker says so — the real price is higher than the adapter
Bought for coding rather than for general diagnostics
Little use outside the BMW and Mini ecosystem those apps serve

The questions that reach us
What is coding?
Changing manufacturer-configurable options that are already in the car’s software — lighting behavior, comfort features, warnings. It is not tuning, and apps like BimmerCode limit themselves to documented options.
Will it read ordinary fault codes?
Yes, through the apps that support it. But a general-purpose adapter costs less and does that job; this one is bought for what BimmerCode and MotoScan do.

What buyers actually choose
Amazon reports what buyers took in the month before this page was last checked: at least 100.
The figure is a floor, rounded by Amazon, and read through Keepa — it says what buyers picked, not what a maker claims.

Bluetooth 5.1 · made for BimmerCode · advanced sleep mode and overvoltage protection · OBDLink app included
The adapter built for coding and safe to leave plugged in: Bluetooth 5.1, an advanced sleep mode, overvoltage protection, and its own app included rather than sold separately.
Best for: Anyone coding a BMW or Mini, and anyone who wants an adapter that can be left in the socket.
All-system scan stated · exclusive ThinkDiag app · battery test · VIN identification · 12 languages
An adapter that behaves like a scan tool: the maker states an all-system scan with inspection reports, which is a different proposition from a code-reading dongle.
Best for: Someone who wants scanner-level coverage without a second screen in the drawer.
ELM327 · Bluetooth Low Energy 4.0 · iOS and Android · power-saving mode stated · works with most OBD apps
The adapter most often recommended for iPhone users, and the one whose listing names the thing that matters when a dongle lives in the socket: a power-saving mode.
Best for: iPhone owners, who have far fewer working options than Android users.
