What is a Presta valve?

The narrow valve used on most road bicycles, as opposed to the Schrader valve on cars. A gauge that fits both means one tool rather than two — which is why this one has a dual head.

Why is unit selection useful?

Because car placards are usually in bar and bicycle tires are usually discussed in PSI. Switching on the tool avoids doing the conversion in your head at the wrong moment.
