  • No battery, so it works after two years in a glovebox
  • A large dial is readable in poor light, unlike a small digital screen
  • PSI only on the dial, where European placards are usually in bar

Best for: A glovebox gauge to check an inflator against.

What lands on the bench

A dial tire pressure gauge reading 0 to 100 PSI, with a reset, stated for everything from motorcycles to trucks.

Why the dial has an advantage

It has no battery and no wake-up time. A gauge that lives in a glovebox for two years and works immediately is worth more than a more precise one that is flat.

The habit that makes it useful

Check your inflator against it once. Two instruments that agree are almost certainly both right; a single instrument that has drifted is invisible.

The unit to watch

The dial is in PSI. If your placard is in bar, convert once and write the number on a label — that is more reliable than doing arithmetic on a wet forecourt.

The questions that reach us

Why own a separate gauge at all?

Because an inflator measures while air is moving, which reads high. A separate gauge, used with the pump stopped, is the reading that matches what is in the tire.

PSI or bar?

Whichever your door placard uses — usually bar in Europe. One bar is about 14.5 PSI, and converting once is fine; converting every time is how mistakes happen.
