Zoomtools 6.5 L dual-mode extractor review

A dual-mode extractor: pump it by hand, or connect a compressor and let it draw the tank down for you.

The last word Two modes, one tank. The compressor decides which one you will actually use.

What lands on the bench

A 6.5 liter extractor with a PE tank that can be drawn down by hand or by compressed air.

Why dual mode is worth having

Because a compressor is not always where the car is. The pneumatic mode is faster in the garage; the manual mode still works on a driveway or at the back of a car park.

The capacity question

6.5 liters covers most car engines, and some larger diesels are close to it. Check your engine’s oil capacity — it is published in the handbook — before assuming one pass is enough.

What has not changed

Whether extraction suits your engine is the manufacturer’s call, and warm oil extracts far better than cold.

What it does, and what it misses

Strengths

  • Pneumatic mode empties a sump in a fraction of the time, if you have a compressor
  • Still works by hand when you do not
  • 6.5 liters is enough for almost any car engine

Compromises

  • The pneumatic advantage needs a compressor, which this site does not cover
  • Smaller tank than the alternative here
  • PE tank rather than steel

The questions that reach us

How much faster is the pneumatic mode?

Substantially — the compressor creates the vacuum continuously rather than in strokes. The maker does not publish a time, and the practical difference is between minutes of pumping and none.

Can I use the same tank for brake fluid and oil?

The maker lists both, and cross-contamination is still a real concern. If brake fluid is a regular job, a dedicated container is cheap insurance.
