The last word The correct tool for modern filters, in fourteen sizes. Find your number, then buy this.
What lands on the bench
Fourteen steel cup wrenches from 65 to 100 mm (2.56 to 3.94 in) with 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive adapters.
Why cups exist
A plastic cartridge housing has flutes molded into it, and the cup engages all of them at once. Force is spread rather than concentrated, which is the only way to turn a plastic part that is holding oil pressure.
The number you need
Diameter and flute count, both usually printed on the housing. A 15-piece set exists because that number varies between manufacturers, and because a household with two cars often needs two sizes.
What the set does not include
A cup for every possible housing. If yours is above 100 mm (3.94 in) or has an unusual flute count, check before ordering — the sizes are published.

What it does, and what it misses
Strengths
Cups are the only safe tool for plastic cartridge housings, and this covers fourteen sizes
Both common drive sizes included, so it works with whichever ratchet you own
A cup grips every flute at once, which is why it does not crush or mark
Compromises
You need to know your size — a cup that is one size out is useless
Fourteen cups take up drawer space for one job
Painted steel sheet rather than cast or forged

The questions that reach us
How do I find my size?
It is usually molded or stamped on the housing, together with the number of flutes — for example 74 mm (2.91 in), 14 flutes. If you cannot see it, measure across the flats of the housing you are about to remove.
Why is a cup mandatory on cartridge housings?
Because the housing is plastic and the cap is designed to be turned by a matched socket. Pliers and straps concentrate force and crack it, and a cracked housing means a second delivery before the car moves.
