A fork is quick; a press keeps the boot alive · review
CCLIFE 2-piece separator set review
Two press-type separators in 18 and 20 mm (0.79 in), with a protective adapter for aluminum components — the detail that separates a tool from a hammer.
The last word Two sizes, forged, with the aluminum adapter. Measure your joint before ordering.
What lands on the bench
Two press-type ball joint separators, 18 and 20 mm (0.79 in), forged in chrome-vanadium and oil-hardened, with a protective adapter for aluminum parts.
Why press rather than fork
A fork separator is driven in and tears the boot; a press pushes the taper out under screw pressure and leaves it intact. If the joint is staying on the car, that difference is the whole job.
The aluminum adapter
Modern control arms are often aluminum, and a steel screw bearing directly on an alloy casting marks it. The adapter is a small piece of the set that prevents an expensive mistake.
The one measurement to take first
The size of the joint. Two sizes cover a lot of cars and not all of them.

What it does, and what it misses
Strengths
Two of the common sizes rather than one, at the lowest price here
An aluminum protection adapter, which matters on modern suspension arms
Forged and oil-hardened stated — the process, not just the material
Compromises
Two sizes only: if your joint is neither, the set does not fit
No jaw depth published
Press-type tools are slower than a fork, which is the point and also a cost

The questions that reach us
How do I know what size I need?
By measuring the joint or its taper, or by checking the vehicle documentation. A separator that is too large slips; one that is too small will not go on. It is the reason multi-piece sets exist.
Why avoid a fork separator?
A fork is driven in with a hammer and tears the rubber boot. That is acceptable when the joint is being replaced and expensive when it is not — and a press-type tool leaves the boot intact.
