S&R 1/2 inch 28–210 Nm set vs HASKYY 3/8 inch 5–60 Nm calibrated set

Which torque wrench range should I buy first?

These two wrenches do not overlap. One covers wheel bolts; the other covers everything in an engine bay that strips if over-tightened. Most garages end up with both, and the order depends on what you work on.

A tick marks the better answer on that line only. Counting ticks does not decide the page — the two verdicts below do, because these products answer different questions.

Which of the two, for which work

Buy the S&R 1/2 inch 28–210 Nm set

Buy the S&R first if wheels are the job. The range covers the values manufacturers publish for wheel bolts, and the three sockets in the box are the sizes almost every car uses. It is TÜV tested with a GS mark — which partly compensates for an accuracy figure the listing does not give.

Buy the HASKYY 3/8 inch 5–60 Nm calibrated set

Buy the HASKYY if you work past the wheels. Five to sixty newton-meters in half-newton steps is the range where over-tightening actually destroys things — sensors into alloy, plastic covers, brackets into castings — and it is the only wrench here that names its calibration standard alongside its ±3%.

The questions that reach us

Can one wrench cover both ranges?

Not accurately. Stated accuracy usually applies over part of a scale, and a wrench used at the bottom of its range is working where it is least reliable. Two wrenches is the correct answer, bought a year apart.

Where does the torque value come from?

The vehicle manufacturer, per fastener. No page on this site supplies one, and a figure repeated second-hand is worth nothing on a wheel.

How should a click wrench be stored?

Wound back to the lowest graduated setting, in its case, and never used to undo anything.
