Why extractor sockets come first

They grip what is left of a rounded head from the outside and turn it out with a ratchet. Nothing is drilled, nothing is destroyed, and the fastener usually comes out in a minute.

When they will not work

When there is no head left, or the bolt has snapped flush. That is when the drill and the internal extractor take over — and having both in one box is the reason to choose this set.

Socket extractor or bit extractor?

A socket extractor grips the outside of a rounded head and needs no drilling — always try it first. A bit extractor is for heads that are gone entirely or for snapped fasteners.

Can I use these with an impact wrench?

Chrome-molybdenum is the right steel for impact use, and the maker states Cr-Mo. Chrome-vanadium sockets are not impact-rated and shatter rather than deform.
