What lands on the bench

A sixteen-piece chrome-molybdenum spiral extractor socket set for damaged nuts and bolt heads: 8 to 27 mm on a 1/2-inch drive, metric only. On this shelf the CCLIFE and VEVOR socket sets stop at 19 mm, so the BGS is the one for large rounded heads.

Why the spiral profile works

It tapers. As the socket turns, it drives further onto the head and grips harder — the opposite of a conventional socket, which slips more as the corners round away.

Where it belongs in the sequence

First. Before drilling, before internal extractors, before heat. Most rounded fasteners come out with a spiral socket and a breaker bar in under a minute.

What it does not solve

A bolt with no head, or one snapped flush. That needs a pilot hole and an internal extractor — and the sets elsewhere in this hub cover it.

Buying it in the United States

Only as an import. At our check on October 20, 2026, Amazon.com listed the BGS 5269 through its international store, sold from abroad, where warranty terms may differ. It sold for about €56 on Amazon.de.

For a socket-type set stocked in the US, the VEVOR set on this screw extractors shelf was $20.90 on Amazon.com that day: thirteen sockets from 1/4 to 3/4 inch, marked in both inches and millimeters. For snapped bolts rather than rounded heads, the Neiko 25-piece multispline set was $36.99.

The questions that reach us

How does a spiral socket grip?

The internal profile is a tapering spiral. Turning it counterclockwise drives it further onto the damaged head, so grip increases with torque rather than slipping away.

Can I buy it in the United States?

Only as an import. At our check on October 20, 2026, Amazon.com listed it through its international store, sold from abroad, where warranty terms may differ; it sold for about €56 on Amazon.de. The VEVOR socket-type set on this shelf, dual-marked in inches and millimeters, sold for $20.90 on Amazon.com the same day.

Will metric sockets fit SAE bolts?

On a rounded head, often yes: a spiral socket grips by biting into the damaged flats, not by matching them, so the nearest metric size usually takes hold. For a garage that works mostly on SAE fasteners, a set marked in both units is the simpler choice.

Can I remove a spiral socket afterwards?

Usually by driving the fastener out from the other end, or with a punch through the socket. It is worth knowing before it is stuck on a bolt on the floor of a wheel arch.
