The last word The right tool for a front caliper. Buy the rewind kit as well if the rears wind.
What lands on the bench
A single ratcheting brake piston tool that presses a piston back squarely into its bore.
Why squareness matters
A piston pushed at an angle scores the bore and rolls the seal. Both mean a caliper, and a caliper costs many times what this tool does.
What it is not
A rewind tool. Threaded rear pistons need turning as they retract, and this presses. Most home garages end up owning both.
The step that goes with it
Open the bleed nipple as the piston goes back, and catch the fluid. Forcing old fluid backwards through the system is how contamination reaches the ABS block.

What it does, and what it misses
Strengths
A ratchet means controlled, incremental pressure rather than levering
Centered pressure is what protects the seal and the bore
A trade part number, orderable years later
Compromises
A press tool: it does not wind threaded rear pistons
Single tool rather than a set — no adapters
More expensive than a full 22-piece kit

The questions that reach us
Press or rewind — how do I tell which my car needs?
A front caliper almost always presses. A rear caliper with a cable parking brake usually winds. If the piston has slots or pins in its face, it winds. If in doubt, the workshop manual for the car says so.
Why not use a G-clamp?
Because it pushes off-center and against the pad backing plate, and a piston pushed at an angle scores its bore. A purpose-made tool applies force through the axis.
