Because many rear calipers integrate the parking brake through a threaded mechanism. Pressing such a piston straight back damages it; it has to be turned as it goes in.
The caliper motor has to be retracted with a diagnostic tool before anything mechanical happens. No rewind set substitutes for that, and forcing it damages the actuator.
