Compare what came out against the capacity in the handbook. A liter missing is information, and it costs nothing to read.
A molded hump with anti-slip retention, so the filter drains standing up instead of rolling into the pan and floating. Small, and the sort of thing you only notice when it is absent.
Carry the oil away sealed. That is what the containers elsewhere in this hub are for, and the transfer between the two is where driveways get stained.

Because a significant shortfall means oil went somewhere else — a leak, or consumption. It is a free diagnostic that only requires a scale on the pan you already own.
A tray catches better and carries worse. Many people use a tray under the car and pour into an old container afterwards, which is the step where oil ends up on the driveway.
